Quinoa – Gluten free superfood!

Quinoa is a great source of protein and healthy fatty acids, not to mention a slew of vitamins and minerals. This superfood is beloved by health enthusiasts and foodies alike since, along with its high nutrition content, it offers a delightfully sweet and nutty taste.

Originating from the mountainous regions of South America, this globally popular nutritious grain is rich in sugar and starches but lacks grain proteins (better known to most as gluten), making it a no-brainer for those living with a gluten intolerance. This nourishing superfood has been revered for thousands of years, and it’s not difficult to see why. Its high fiber content is satiating, keeping us feeling fuller for longer.

Unlike other grains, it’s high in protein, essential amino acids and B vitamins that are so elusive to those on a vegan diet, not to mention vitamins A and E, iron, manganese, magnesium, calcium and phosphorous. This mineral cocktail acts as powerful defender against migraines and supports the prevention of diabetes. The low glycemic index of quinoa normalizes blood sugar levels, preventing bouts of cravings throughout the day.

Quinoa does as much good for you on the outside as it does on the inside. Those in search of a youthful radiance, look no further: quinoa is an invaluable source of antioxidants and flavonoids, and its effects on skin complexion can be compared to that of an elixir of youth as these properties inhibit the process of premature skin aging. Its lysine and riboflavin compounds foster the production of collagen and elastin (proteins responsible for the elasticity and firmness of the skin).

So, incorporate quinoa into your diet not only for your health, but also for your beauty and, arguably most importantly, your tastebuds! You can find this powerful superfood in our Amki Sesame & Grains bar with quinoa!
